New UNDP Resident Representative in Zimbabwe presents credentials

Harare, 4 January 2022 – United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) new  Resident Representative, Ms. Mia Seppo, has today presented her credentials to the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Prof. Amon Murwira.

Receiving Ms. Seppo in her new post, Hon. Minister Prof. Murwira highlighted the cordial relations between the Government of Zimbabwe and UNDP. The Minister appreciated UNDP’s support in a number of development areas and its support to the alignment of laws to the Constitution and the on-going support to the country’s National Development Strategy.

Ms. Seppo expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in Zimbabwe. In line with the new UNDP five-year Country Programme Framework which is aligned with the UN Cooperation Framework and the National Development Strategy, Ms. Seppo committed continued support to Zimbabwe towards environment and climate change issues, socio-economic recovery and governance. The discussion also covered cooperation in the areas of youth entrepreneurship and job creation, innovation and industrialisation. UNDP will use its vast knowledge network to link Zimbabwe with development experiences from across the globe.

Ms. Seppo’s career with the United Nations spans over 25 years with assignments in the field and in Headquarters. Prior to joining UNDP in Zimbabwe, she served as the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh from 2017 – 2021 and as the UN Resident Coordinator in Malawi from 2013 – 2017. Between 2010 – 2013 she was the UNDP Country Director in Sierra Leone.
