Africa: Putting Women First

The Africa Human Development Report 2016 titled “Accelerating Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Africa”, finds that sub-Saharan Africa loses an average of USD 95 billion annually from the gender gap in labour participation alone, and that African women achieve only 87 percent of the human development outcomes of men, jeopardizing achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063.

In this video prepared with the input of UNDP Zimbabwe to coincide with the launch of the AfHDR 2016, Ms. Divine Ndhlukula, the Founder and Managing Director of Securico Security Services in Harare, and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, among others, offer an insight into what it takes to be a trailblazer, a woman leader and first among equals in a male-dominated world.
