Boosting Capacity for Resilience Building in Zimbabwe

In a major boost to national efforts to deal with consequences and impact of natural and manmade shocks / hazards, exacerbated by climate change, the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund (ZRBF) will be formally launched in Harare on 19 May 2016; this Fund shall provide a vital resource as the country contends with one of its worst droughts in recent decades.

Following the launch of the 2015 Human Development Report in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 14, 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark and the Director of the Human Development Report Office and lead author of the report, Selim Jahan, UNDP in Zimbabwe is supporting the publication of a national human development report with a focus on “climate change and human development”.

Describing the hosting of the 18th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) in Zimbabwe as historic, the UN in Zimbabwe has commended the Government for outstanding leadership in responding to the HIV crisis and saving thousands of lives through effective and efficient delivery of health services to the needy. The conference is taking place in Harare from 29 November-4 December, 2015.
Breakthrough brings cost of HIV treatment to under $100 per patient per year

UNDP has achieved significant reductions in the price of HIV medicines that it procures, bringing down the cost of the most common treatment to an unprecedented US$100 per patient per year in Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Mali, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Through these price reductions UNDP is saving US$ 25 million that are being used to put an additional 250,000 people on life-saving HIV treatment.
