UN Applauds Zimbabwe’s Efforts in Combating HIV, Urges Donors to Stay the Course as Major AIDS Conference Gets Underway in Zimbabwe

Describing the hosting of the 18th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) in Zimbabwe as historic, the UN in Zimbabwe has commended the Government for outstanding leadership in responding to the HIV crisis and saving thousands of lives through effective and efficient delivery of health services to the needy. The conference is taking place in Harare from 29 November-4 December, 2015.
Breakthrough brings cost of HIV treatment to under $100 per patient per year

UNDP has achieved significant reductions in the price of HIV medicines that it procures, bringing down the cost of the most common treatment to an unprecedented US$100 per patient per year in Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Mali, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Through these price reductions UNDP is saving US$ 25 million that are being used to put an additional 250,000 people on life-saving HIV treatment.

Boost to Parliament as Embassy of Sweden Avails USD 1.8 million

Harare: In a boost to the Multi-donor Support Programme for Parliament and the Office of the Auditor General, the Embassy of Sweden has provided Swedish Kroner 15 million (about US $ 1, 8 million.). Implemented by UNDP in collaboration with the Parliament of Zimbabwe, the project is also funded with USD $ 2 million from the European Union, and USD 1 million from UNDP.

Towards Localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Zimbabwe

An all-inclusive dialogue with all Provincial and District Administrator on localising the SDGs took place from 27-28 August, 2015 in Mutare. The dialogue brought together senior Government officials, top leadership of Local Authorities and all District Administrators. Head of UN Agencies including UNICEF, WFP, UNFPA and UNESCO were also present.

This programme is designed as a collaborative entrepreneurship model targeting young farmers to transform their farming practices into productive and commercially viable agri-business ventures.
