The project “Supporting the Implementation of Zimbabwe’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change” runs from 2018 to 2020. Currently, investments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions are not sufficient to meet Zimbabwe’s national objectives and global obligations to low emission development as set out in the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. It also seeks to strengthen the national capacity to measure and report on country progress towards meeting the national emission reduction target. The project therefore seeks to facilitate investments and partnerships to further low emission development.

Project Outcomes

1. Crafting of a Low Emission Development Strategy to provide a clear direction for low emission development for the country.

2. Strengthening of the national capacity to measure and report on country's progress towards meeting the national emission reduction target.

3. Facilitation of partnerships with investors, companies and academic institutions to open investments, collaboration and technological exchange for low emission development.

Achievements

The project was launched in February 2018 and is in the early stages of crafting of the Low Emission Development Strategy.
